This is my Elder Goth Blog, and I'm putting it together because , well-- there's an awful lot of us out there.
A little about my background; I'm a 40-something year old Goth that started out as a Hardcore Punk in NYC in 1981. I got into Siouxie and Bauhaus around that time-- though my roots as a young teenager ran from Kiss to The Cars to Lene Lovich to David Bowie. I became a huge fan of Gary Numan and the Sex Pistols, the Damned, Talking Heads, Devo, etc, etc. In New York, I discovered the Punk scene and threw myself in.
And then there was Batcave, and Blitz/New Romantic.
By the 90's I was playing bass in a Gothic band, and have continued playing Gothic/Darkwave in the Seattle scene since.
So, there are a lot of things I'd like to do with this blog-- examine some of the music that shaped the scene; look at how the Seattle Gothic Scene contributed to the Gothic subculture as a whole; interview Elder Goths and get their take on the subject-- plus I'd like to look at fashion, art, etc, ... in short, anything that has to do with the subject. As I am also a Goth of Color-- this is something else I'd like to touch on.
So-- definitions: what is an Elder Goth?
Currently, the consensus seems to be that if you are over 30, you are an Elder Goth.
Does that make me a Geriatric Goth?
